The opportunity: A position for the right someone looking to expand their culinary knowledge base. The Banquet Chef position here at the Embassy Suites Hotel will assist in developing our newly reopened Banquet/Catering business, assisting in menu development, ensuring both cooks and the serving staff understand how items prepared and served. We are a Farmer’s Market – to table food program, shopping weekly next door at the Marin Farmers Market for outstanding produce plus we are building our own organic farm on property. We are passionate about great, fresh food.
What we're looking for: A dreamer...someone who relishes (a pun, sorry) the opportunity to not just read a recipe from beginning to end but whose imagination is as strong as their skill. That said, you should have either a culinary degree and/or a minimum of 3 years experience as banquet cook in a full service kitchen environment. Ability to train others, give praise and recognition and at times hold the team accountable. You should be able to work evenings and weekends along with most holidays, have the ability to lift up to 20lbs and stand for up to 8 hours with or without reasonable accommodation. The best candidate for this great opportunity has strong production skills, a love for cooking great food, is a true team player, has banquet cooking experience and wants to continue to learn and grow. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a huge plus! You will be training current team members in new skills you bring to the table and assisting to develop their culinary muscles. You will be attending weekly BEO meetings with the Catering sales team and assisting in ordering for the upcoming week. You should also have a good amount of knowledge with computer software and ordering.
There are days we don't have catering functions within the hotel so of course we'll ask you to assist with food preparation and production in our restaurant, Red Oak Craft Bar and Rotisserie.
We have recently completed a multi million dollar renovation this will be a great opportunity to get on board early to assist in the creation of an entirely new Food and Beverage concept at Marin’s local favorite hotel.
